Derby for Diabetes

As a proud chapter of an International Fraternity, we strive to “contribute to the world’s work in the community where we are placed.” Our favorite way to contribute is holding philanthropy events! This year’s week-long philanthropy was our most successful yet, and we’re so thankful for the support we received from other chapters and our community.

We kicked the week off with a Diabetes Awareness Program Meeting.

Next, we held a new event: Alpha Gam & Jackson.  We had the wonderful  2 Brothers Bistro here as well as Sugar Shack, both food trucks who served our guests. We raised money for the Simons family and enjoyed food and fun together.

To end our week, we had our annual Oodles of Noodles on thursday night. We had an amazing turnout and everyone enjoyed endless pasta and deserts and live music at the chapter house!

IMG_8190   IMG_7577A huge thank you to our alumnae, fellow greeks, and members of the community for supporting us in our philanthropic ventures. Our week wouldn’t have been the same without the execution and coordination from our wonderful Philanthropy Coordinator, Kelsey Wilson, and her advisor, Adrienne Nobles.

Initiation Week

November 3rd through November 9th brought one of the most exciting times of year for our new members- Initiation week! After spending all semester learning what exactly it means to be an Alpha Gamma Delta woman, our new members spent the week spending time with their Alpha, Gamma, and Delta, as well as learning more in our ritual ceremonies!

Honor Bronze & Blue: Part II

The second half of our week was twice as busy as the first! We got to let loose at Rock the Block, and the Comedy show, but thursday brought our first Cheer and Dance showing and Friday was our performance. We nailed our routine and had so much fun working hard to do leave it all on the mat!

Alpha Gamma Delta also had the huge priveledge of cheering on one of our sisters who was on Homecoming Court. Bree made it through the interview process and was selected as one of five girls out of ten who interviewed! Bree looked gorgeous and we were so proud to have such a well-spoken woman of purpose representing us.IMG_1544Overall, we took 2nd place and had such an amazing week bonding with each other and Honoring Bronze & Blue together. Congratulations to our football team who won the game and brought home the President’s Cup!

Honor Bronze & Blue: Part I

It was so exciting to recently kick off our favorite time of the year: Homecoming Week! This years theme was Honor Bronze and Blue. We couldn’t wait to show some school spirit and show everyone why we love Central!IMG_1579

We started with the Day of Service, where we worked at the Refuge downtown and helped do some housekeeping with other volunteers.

Sunday brought Dec the Campus and Dodgeball! Our women got to paint the windows and chalk the sidewalk with all things Central, and our athletes took home second place.

Over the past few weeks, Alpha Gams have been volunteering their time at various locations in order to fulfill our purpose, “Contributing to the World’s Work.” Alpha Gams volunteered at the animal shelter, Regional Food Bank, and JDRF walk for diabetes. We love giving back to the community and seeing our impact go a long way.

Tailgate for a Cause

On Saturday September 27, Alpha Gams hosted “Tailgate for a Cause” to raise money for the Simons family after the recent passing of Megan. Lunch of hotdogs, chips and a drink was served for 5$ to tailgaters outside of Wantland Stadium before the football game. We raised $1,270 for the Simons family! Thanks to everyone who came out and helped us carry on Megan’s legacy by supporting her family and helping us raise brain cancer awareness.

Megan’s Legacy

On Friday, September 12, Epsilon Nu lost a member who fought a long battle with brain cancer. Megan Simons entered chapter grand early that morning. She was a 23 year old member of pledge class ’13 and an inspiration to us all. Megan changed the lives of everyone she encountered and in her short time as a member of Alpha Gam was the definition of a woman who lived with purpose. Megan taught us to live fearlessly, love with no limits, and take advantage of each moment. Her legacy will forever live on and the impact she made will never be forgotten. “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.”

Alpha Gam is currently taking donations to go directly to the Simons family to help with any costs acquired during the time of Megan’s treatment. To donate, contact Audrey Biggs at audreybiggs@cox.net.

Miles Against Melanoma

Some of our members volunteered for Miles Against Melanoma Oklahoma on campus this past weekend, while some participated in the 1 mile fun run and 5k! MAMOK was started in memory of our sister Maddy, who entered Chapter Grand in May of 2013. Maddy was a victim of Melanoma and has inspired us all to carry on her legacy and live with purpose. MAMOK was a huge success with over 250 participants. Runners participated in memory of loved ones or in support of survivors, some still fighting. The first annual Miles Against Melanoma was a huge success in raising money for Melanoma Awareness and for families impacted directly by Melanoma.

To Cherish Friendships

September 2nd was our annual Mom/ Dot reveal. Exactly one week after new members received their bid, they made a special connection that will last more than four years. A “mom” serves as a guide, friend, and support system to help a new member through their first semester in greek life. It’s so exciting to watch our new members “cherish friendships with but a chosen few”.
